Park Development PlansPhase I is finished: the park is open. We have fences, gates, dog waste stations, rules signs, grass, and sprinklers. There is even a little bit of landscaping over by the ball fields. The park is open and functional (phew!!). Phase II of the project is just beginning. In this phase we want to add the facilities that will make the park easier to use, more beautiful, and more resistant to the heavy use it's getting. We'll be actively asking for feedback and ideas in the coming months. If you have ideas, don't hesitate to let us know what you think. FacilitiesSeparate Small Dog AreaSDPP has installed a temporary fence inside the park to designate an area for small dogs only until patterns of use have been determined. The size of the area will be adjusted accordingly, then a permanent chain link fence will be installed. Gate AreaOne of the outstanding donations SDPP has received is an ornamental entry gate from artist/sculptor/welder Dana Hyde. See some photos of the creation process of the gate. Just inside the main gate is a leasing/unleashing safety pen. This area gets a lot of traffic and we plan pave this area with our donated tribute bricks. FenceThe fence around the park as well as the labor for installation have been generously donated by Terry Selbey of KC Construction. The park is surrounded by a four-foot chain link fence. There is one main entry gate area for visitors, and two maintenance gates for mowing equipment: one on the outer perimeter fence, and one (planned) for the inner fence that creates the small dog area. WaterThe park is irrigated by the City, using potable water (not re-claimed water). The City of Sequim generously provided the irrigation system and will provide all the water for the park. The SDPP plans to install fund the installation of a water fountain for people and dogs. LandscapingThe park, at opening, is primarily grass with a few trees in the park and a nice grove of shade trees just outside the norther fence. There is also one long row of shrubs inside the south fence to help shield the ball-players from attentive dogs. Future landscaping plans include paths, earth mounds and tunnels, trees, boulders and raised garden areas. StructuresWe will have a kiosk-style bulletin board near the entrance of the park. This will allow us to post notices of interest to our visitors, including information on dog park etiquette, dog training, lost dogs, local pet services, etc. Eventually, we intend to install a gazebo near the center of the park. This will help provide shade and seating for owners. We are also considering dog agility obstacles for extra play and exercise opportunities. BenchesWe will have benches throughout the park, as well as at least one bench outside the park for outside observers. The number of benches hasn't been determined, but the park is big enough to accommodate quite a few. Waste Cans and Dog Bag StationsThe park has large waste can near the entrance. It has multiple smaller cans with poop-bag dispensers distributed throughout the park. There are waste scoops and shovels available, if necessary. Play StructuresWe've been discussing the addition of agility course obstacles, mounds and tunnels for the dogs to play on. These are still in the planning stages. donationsIf you'd like to help us by donating cash, services or products, please see our donations page. Thanks, and Woof!
